Our Programmes

Six Areas of Focus

Each programme area is designed to address a specific dimension of empowerment โ€” together they form a comprehensive approach to sport for development.

Sport for Development

Sport as a vehicle for social change

We use sport as a powerful, proven vehicle for social transformation. Through structured sport programmes, we create safe spaces where women and girls develop confidence, leadership skills, and community belonging โ€” while challenging the social norms that hold them back.

Key Activities

  • Community sport events and leagues
  • Leadership development through sport
  • Coaches and officials training
  • Advocacy campaigns in sport spaces

Disability Inclusion

Equal access, equal opportunity

WSDT is committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully included in all sport programmes and leadership opportunities. We work to remove physical, social, and attitudinal barriers so that every woman and girl โ€” regardless of ability โ€” can participate, lead, and thrive.

Key Activities

  • Inclusive sport programme design
  • Disability awareness training for coaches
  • Accessible facilities advocacy
  • Para-sport participation pathways

  • Leadership and life skills workshops
  • Sport administration training
  • Peer-to-peer learning networks

Safety is non-negotiable. WSDT promotes safeguarding across all its programmes and partnerships, creating environments where women, girls, and persons with disabilities can participate free from harm, abuse, or discrimination.

Key Activities

  • Safeguarding policy development
  • Child and adult protection training
  • Safe sport reporting mechanisms
  • Partner organisation capacity building

Advocacy & Networks

Amplifying voices, changing systems

WSDT acts as a convenor โ€” bringing stakeholders together across sectors and levels to advocate for the rights and aspirations of women and girls in sport. We facilitate collective action that creates systemic, sustainable change.

Key Activities

  • Multi-stakeholder forums and workshops
  • Policy advocacy at national level
  • Strategic partnership building
  • Community advocacy networks

Research & Learning

Evidence-based approaches to impact

Our work is grounded in evidence. WSDT integrates research and learning into its programmes, ensuring that approaches are continuously refined, scaled where they work, and shared across the sector to multiply impact.

Key Activities

  • Programme monitoring and evaluation
  • Community needs assessments
  • Knowledge sharing and publications
  • Sector collaboration and learning

How We Work

Our Approach

WSDT's model is built around four interconnected stages that drive sustainable, community-led change.

01

Convene

Bring together stakeholders โ€” communities, organisations, government bodies and partners โ€” around shared goals for women and girls in sport.

02

Catalyse

Spark collaborative action by facilitating workshops, meetings and mentorship that unlock the collective expertise and resources of our networks.

03

Empower

Deliver tailored programmes that strengthen agency, voice and leadership โ€” grounded in the unique circumstances and needs of each community.

04

Sustain

Embed inclusive, equitable solutions that last โ€” scaling what works and building local capacity so impact continues long after a programme ends.

Partnerships

We Work Better Together

WSDT's impact is multiplied through strategic partnerships with sport bodies, government departments, NGOs, and community organisations. We welcome partnerships that share our commitment to inclusive, equitable sport development.
